The
Monastery
of Petra is situated in the area called "Petra" of the Community "Kataphygi",
South - West of the prefecture Karditsas. What has remained from the monastery
are the church and part of the cells.
The church, honoured to "Koimisis of Virgin", is in the cross - in
- square with choirs and dome (the type of Athos monasteries) and a chapel in
the South. The internal is richly decorated with fresco paintings of 17th and
18th c.
Both, church and chapel, are being restored.
Nowadays the church is used for religious purposes.
