ARKADES (Municipality) ZAKYNTHOS
The logo of the Municipality of Arkadion is Hermes. From bibliography we are informed that the population of the Municipality was 3.166 in 1870 and 3.352 in 1879; in their vast majority was refuges from Arkadia and Krete that came to Zakynthos after the Turkish occupation of their lands.
The Municipality of Arkades was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 7 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Agios Kirykos,
2. Vanaton,
3. Kalipadon,
4. Kypseli,
5. Planos,
6. Sarakinadon,
7. Tragakion.
Municipality seat is Vanato, village of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 3553 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
