The Municipality of Anogia was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 3 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of:
1. Anogia
and the former communities of:
1. Axos,
2. Zoniana.
Municipality seat is Anogia, small town of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 4285 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
Later changes: Axos & Zoniana annexed to the Municipality of Kouloukona
GEROPOTAMOS (Municipality) RETHYMNO
The Municipality of Geropotamos was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 16 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Angeliana,
2. Agios Mamas,
3. Alfa,
4. Achlades,
5. Kalandare,
6. Margarites,
7. Melidonion,
8. Melissourgakion,
9. Orthes,
10. Panormos,
11. Passalites,
12. Perama,
13. Roumeli,
14. Sisses,
15. Skepasti,
16. Choumerion.
Municipality seat is Perama, small town of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 7188 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
KOULOUKONA (Municipality) RETHYMNO
The Municipality of Kouloukona was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 15 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Agia,
2. Agios Ioannis,
3. Aimonas,
4. Aloides,
5. Apladiana,
6. Venion,
7. Garazon,
8. Damalovos,
9. Doxaron,
10. Episkopi,
11. Theodora,

Municipality seat is Garazo, village of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 5725 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
