KOTSANOPOULO (Village) PREVEZA
On the SW of the settlement of Ano Kotsanopoulo and near the village
of Vryssoula, there is the holy monastery of Avassou, in the place of an older
Byzantine monastery. An inscription - badly written - says that it was built in
1746. The monastery was renovated in 1852. It consists of the church (dedicated
to Virgin Mary), which was built in 1853 and is the type of basilica with dome,
the cells of the monks (now ruined), the guest-house (ruined as well) and a water-mill
recently restored. The whole complex building site of the monastery is located
in a picturesque landscape and is of unique beauty.
