The Municipality of Eghion was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 14 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of

and the former communities of:
1. Valimitika,
2. Dafnes,
3. Digeliotika,
4. Kouloura,
5. Koumaris,
6. Kounina,
7. Mavrikion,
8. Melissia,
9. Paraskevi,
10. Pteri,
11. Selinous,
12. Temeni,
13. Chatzis.
Municipality seat is Eghion, city of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 28903 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
