PERDIKA (Small town) THESPROTIA

Recreation Park

Constructed in 2001 the park is situated near the Ag. Athanasios Monastery and it includes a big part of Perdika's river. In the park, in a secluded area of about 400 acres, there is some form of wildlife with easy access to the river. You can walk along the river banks crossing here and there over stone or wooden bridges. Wooden railings run all the way on one side of the paths. The main path is about a kilometre long and fairly easy to walk on. There's another path away from the river and uphill with steps made of tree trunks where needed. There is also a picnic area and several spots where you can rest. Sign posts can be found everywhere with detailed information.

DAFNI (Settlement) FILIATES

Laggari

Starting off from Igoumenitsa towards Filiates, we turn right towards Keramitsa. Going up the road that leads from Daphni (known as "Tzouma") to Kokkino Lithari, one meets on his right, the old path-cobbled road (it was built during the years of the Turkish domination so as to connect Ioannina with the port of Sagiada), which goes up like a snake on the steep slopes of Laggari mountain, above the stream of Potamia. Many parts of the cobbled road are well preserved and the walls which protect it from the cliffs and the "screes" are quite impressive, reaching up to a height of four meters and, in some parts, they are double. The view from the path into the gorge is fantastic, with the stream down below and the high rocks of Laggari above. The course "a pleasant mountain walk" does not take more than two hours.

Religious monuments

Panagia Velianis (= The Virgin Mary of Veliani)

The church was a three-apse basilica.

GLYKI (Village) THESPROTIA

Basilica

The ruined church lies near the bank of river Acheron. Two rows of columns divide the interior into three aisles. The apse of the sanctuary is three-sided, while a smaller, semicircular apse occupies the north end of the sanctuary, in the area of the prothesis. The basilica has a transept and a tripartite narthex to the west. It was probably wooden-roofed and the wall masonry is pseudo-isodomic with large stone blocks enclosed by bricks. The interior is decorated with wall paintings dated to the 17th and 18th centuries.
The basilica of Glyki was built in the Byzantine period, probably in the years of the Despotate of Epiros. During the excavation it was realized that the building was erected on top of an earlier structure, dated to the Early Christian period. It cannot be identified with the church that was founded by Saint Donatos in Evroia, with the donation of Theodosius the Great. There is a possibility though, that the ancient site of Evroia was not far from the modern village of Glyki. Excavations on the site were conducted in two campaigns, in 1953-54 (by D. Pallas) and in 1970-72. In the second campaign, the monument was completely uncovered and a second rectangular structure of the Early Christian period was found to the south of the basilica's narthex.
The site was enclosed with a fence in 1965.
