MOURNIES (Small town) ELEFTHERIOS VENIZELOS
  Mournies is the village where Crete's famous statesman Eleftherios Venizelos was born. The house is on the main street and is now a museum.

Agios Eleftherios Monastery

  Near the village, is the monastery of Agios Eleftherios from the seventeenth century. The monastery church has unusual architecture. Today it presents externally the shape of a Latin cross (the vertical stem being longer than the horizontal) with three conches and a dome supported by a tall drum. The front part of the church, however, is much older, probably dating from the tenth or eleventh century.
