The town of Ochrida and the lake of Ochrida with its natural beauties, its history and its cultural heritage, constitutes a real jewel for FYROM under the aegis of UNESCO. Its wealth and exclusive particularity is the fact that besides its flora the lake of Ochrida was named the fresh-water sea of FUROM. The lake's surface is almost 358 square metres and its bigger depth reaches 288 metres.
Many specimens of that lake present old remains of the animal world
of the European space of sometime. That kind of specimens can only be found in
the Tiberian Lake in Near East and the lake Baokal in Siberia. The fish fauna
of the lake Orhrida is exquisite. 17 species of fishes are known, of which the
most famous is the trout of Ochrida.
