The old town of PAROS, also called "The most splendid city of Paros" was located on the site of today's Parikia or Parkia, as it is presently called by the inhabitants. It is the island's capital. Its port welcomes both passenger- and merchant-ships. It is also the seat of all public services, as well as of the communal Administration. It is the centre of economic and touristic activities. Inspite of the explosive evolution of tourism, the town managed to keep its local colour, the dazzlingly whitewashed streets, the attractive seashores nearby and the small island houses. The most famous monument of Parikia is the church of Ekatontapiliani.
