Elatus, Cyllen's father, was named after the fir trees of the mountain. The name Ziria, which was given to the mountain later on, derives from a Slavic word which means "acorn" (Ekd. Athinon, Pausaniou Periegissis, vol.4, p.240, note 1).
The highest mountain in the Peloponnesus, on the frontiers of Arcadia and Achaia, sacred to Hermes, who had a temple on the summit, was said to have been born there, and was hence called Cyllenius.
