A town in Macedonia, afterwards called Thessalonica, situated
at the northeastern extremity of a great gulf of the Aegaean Sea, called Thermaicus
or Thermaeus Sinus from the town at its head. This gulf was also called Macedonicus
Sinus; its modern name is the Gulf of Salonica.
