KAVOUSSI (Village) IERAPETRA
This is the last village before you reach the turn off for Ierapetra.
The village of Kavousi is 25km east of Agios Nikolaos and 45km west of Sitia.
There are many Byzantine churches in the area of Kavousi and in the mountain above
Kavousi there are important Late Minoan geometric settlements.

MINOA (Ancient city) IERAPETRA
On the SE corner of the Gulf of Mirabello a town where Greek and Roman remains have been found. These along with Minoan remains support the identification with Minoa. The ancient site may, however, have existed in the SW corner of the same gulf, at Katevati and Nisi below Kalochorio, serving as a port of Istron (at Vrokastro or Kalochorio?).
