Pharos

The islet is mentioned by Homer (Od. 4.355) and was located opposite Alexandreia, which was built afterwards by Alexander the Great.

Proteus

A sea-god and servant of Poseidon, whose flocks of seals he tended. He was the father of Eidothea and, according to Homer, he resided in the island of Pharos in Egypt (Od. 4.365 & 385).
