Maria Lambatharidou - Pothou was born in Myrina Lemnos where she lived
during her childhood , adolescence and early adulthood years.
She worked at the prefect center of Lemnos. She gained her degree
of Politics and Economics, obtained a scholarship from the French government and
studied theatre at the University of Paris. In Paris she met Samuel Beckett whom
she maintained continuous contact by mail.
In the field of literature she first appeared during her early adulthood
years with the quality selection of work "Meetings" which Odysseas Elytis
characterized as poetry of maturity. To date she published 34 books, poetry, novels,
essays, stories.
She also wrote theatrical plays, which appeared in Greece as well
as overseas (France, America, Canada, Belgium).
Her poetry work "Mystical Pass" that was nominated for the
excellence award of Europe in 1991 was translated by Jacques Lancarriere and was
published in France with his preface.
The same work was translated by the Swedish Ingerman Rhedin, and was
published by the Bonnier publishing company of Stockholm. The English version
is also been prepared.
She was awarded by the group of 12 in 1966, from the Academy of Athens
in 1987, for her novel "Maroula of Lemnos" and from the foundation of
Ourani in 1995 for her novel "With the lamp of the wind-storm".
She is married with Minoa Potho and has a child.
As she writes: "My ambition in life is to give its unseen dimensions,
to find the relation of the human soul with the invisible, which surround the
visible with mystery, thus giving visualization and meaning to things. I believe
that with this relation, from the invisible, begin the paths of self-knowledge,
the psycho-graphical paths of my novels."
