Ovidius Naso, Publius, his exile at Tomi

   He had almost completed his best known work, the Metamorphoses, when suddenly, in A.D. 8, he was banished for life by Augustus to Tomi (Kustindje), on the Black Sea, near the mouths of the Danube.
