  In the northeast part of Serifos, near the village of Galini, about 1 kilometer from Panagia is the Monastery of the Taxiarches, dedicated to the patrons of the island, the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Founded around 1600, it is built like a fortress. The church contains a few of the frescoes that once decorated it, a marble and wood iconostasis, some memorable icons (the one of the archangels having been brought from Cyprus), a marble floor and an elegant dome. The monastery also has a superb collection of ecclesiastical treasures, including a holy codex. It is situated conveniently near the beach of Platys Yialos.

  Many of Siphnos's churches and monasteries have been characterised as historical monuments and present a huge historical and architectural interest. We indicatively mention the following:
   Panaghia Aggeloktisti in Katavati, the Monastery of Prophet Elijah the Tall, Monastery of Chrisostomos in Kato Petali, Panaghia ta Gournia in Pano Petali, Aghios Antipas in Pano Petali, Aghios Konstantionos in Artemonas, Panaghia tis Ammou and Panaghia Koghi in Artemonas, Panaghia Eleousa in Castro, the Monastery of Panaghia Poulati, Panaghia tou Vounou, the Monastery of Panaghia of Chrisopigi.
 The island counts a total of 227 churches. Particularly interesting are all the churches of Castro, as well as Chrisopigi church, Panaghia Vrisis, Panaghias Vounou Monastery, Aggeloktisti Katavatis church, Aghios Sozon, Panaghia Koghi, Panagia ta Gournia, Panaghia tis Ammou, Aghios Georghios Afentis, Aghios Loukas, Aghios Konstantinos.
