Saint Ioannis of Theologos

EPIDAVROS (Municipality) ARGOLIS
This built in the 11th century. The icons in the first stage and the sound vessels preserved until today, in straight line and in normal distances, bear witness to the beauty of these monuments. Older, at the East side of the shell of the sanctum, there was a wooden gong and a bell whose sound could be heard far away, as far as Aegina.

St. Michael of Sinadon

According to the estimations of some people, the graphic and remarkable Christian monument is a building of the 13th century. The temple gives the impression of a small church, but if someone enters in, he will realize the wealth of the icons around the walls.

Saint John Theologos

NEA EPIDAVROS (Small town) ARGOLIS
Stands in the castle of New Epidavros, built in the 11th century. It was full of icons that unfortunately are destroyed, and according to local stories it had a gold bell that could be heard as far as the island of Aegina.
Until recently, on the wall under the bell there was the Byzantine puzzle “HERALDING TALK OF HIS SPEECH HYMN, ARTICULATED VOICE NOT HAVING BUT WELL SOUNDED”. The answer to this was the bell itself.

Saint Michael of Sinadon

Church built on a plateau of New Epidavros, east of the ancient Mycenaean settlement and cemetery. It was built in the 13th century, and is full of well-kept icons. Typical is the icon dedicated to local agricultural life.

Monasteries

The Retreat of Polemarxas

EPIDAVROS (Municipality) ARGOLIS
At first, this was a retreat by a monk, early 15th century, from the monastery of Agnoudos. Later on the monk and his students built up the monastery of the Madonna of "Polemarxa". Today there are some ruins around the monastery. We can see the cells of the monastery and the water wells. Although the monastery is unfinished we can see clearly the symmetry of the vaulted roof and the sound pots around the cells. The monastery of Madonna of "Polemarxa" is abandoned because of a scourge of pirates.

Kalami monastery

One of the most beautiful monasteries of the region, Located at a fabulous spot with a wonderful view

Monastery of Agnous

MONI TAXIARCHON AGNOUDOS (Monastery) EPIDAVROS
It is the oldest monastery of Epidavros. It is located at the eastern limits of the municipality of Epidavros, next to the motorway Korinthos-Epidavros. The name of this monastery probably came from the Greek ancient word "agnous" meaning osier, a plant, that is plentiful in the local area and next to the lake. But there is another explanation about the name of the monastery, which takes precedence and a local muse is recorded, speaking about the local monasteries: "at Stiri supported, at Agnada watching, at Fanairomeni revealed and at the Cave hold it"
According to the prevailing opinion, the temple is a building of the 11th century but the monastery pre-existed, without fail, in the Turkish age.
The monastery is well guarded and is surrounded by high walls and powerful towers and small turrets. From the saved buildings we have a clear option of the four side-building group which rose up around the restricted internal guard. A double wooden door of 6-7cm thick supported by iron metal plates secures the main entrance. The rhythm of the temple is complicated internally. It is royalty style, with dome and outdoor looks cross-formed. Is a mixture of the royal style with dome and Byzantine architecture.
The most important factor is that all the icons are in fine condition. It is believed that these icons are from circa 1250 AD. Finally the retable of the temple is 300 years old.

A monastery built about the 15 century in a beautiful and peaceful location. The monastery saw big action during the Ottoman Empire (offering a lot to the local area).
