Diplo Custom

VOLISSOS (Village) CHIOS
This custom is revived every year by the cultural club of Volissos in the homonymous village. The last Sunday of the Carnival a series of people gathered on the village's square, singing the verses and dancing in the beat of the Volissian dance "Diplo". Then it follows a fast and furious festival, a great celebration on the square, with the people tasting souma (a drink made from figs) and eating roasted chickpeas and sweets.

The Saint Markella's monastery at the Volissos area, celebrates every year at the 22nd of July. It is the biggest celebration in Chios area. The yard of the church is full of palmers. The cells are ready to guest the visitors. The emotion and the faith, which someone feels is high, besides Saint Markella, proved that with her suffering death.
