Blue Flags 2001

Finikoudas Beach

The great natural wealth and the incobarable advantage of Finikounda is its beaches and its crystal clean waters. The visitors get excited about the marvellous combination of nature, the green hills with the small streams which give the sensation of a ravine with their sparkling clean waters. The beach of this community, organised and nominated for the blue flag, stretches from the south part of the community to the west, where there is a fishing shetter which is also used by boats and yachts. Along the beach there are restaurants, cafes and confectionery shops next to the wave which compose the good quality touristic market of Finikounda.

Mavrovouni & Anemomylos

On the route from Methoni to Koroni and just before we reach Finikounda, the beach called "Mavrovouni" is located. This is where a long sandy beach starts that ends at the village of Finikounda and the location "Anemomylos". It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Messinia.

Papa or Limna

On the right side of the road from Pylos to Methoni, at the entrance of the town right across the football field, a dirt road starts going to the west, that takes us close to a beautiful and shallow bay with relatively warm waters, called "Papa Limna". It is a spectacular location where one can swim, fish and of course, enjoy a beautiful sunset. The view to the Ionian Sea is amazing. Access from the parking to the bay is a bit rough. But the beauty of the landscape will reward the visitor.

In the middle of the route from Methoni to Finikounda, right next to the new road that was recently finished, we come across wonderful beaches. The first one are the "Lampes"of Methoni. It is a small in size pebbled beach. Up to now it is deserted with very few visitors.

Remarkable beaches

Salanti Beach

Salandi beach, which is 3 km long, has golden, granular sand and is crystal clear and calm in summer. This beach is between two rocks, those of St. Ascension and Mavrovounio where they have found Prehistoric settlements. The combination of its size with its syntheticity has turned it into a landscape of great natural beauty. There's an organised camping which welcomes lots of visitors.
