SafeSeaNet: Community Vessel Traffic Monitoring & Information System
SafeSeaNet, a European Platform for Maritime Data Exchange between Member States' maritime authorities, is a network/Internet solution based on the concept of a distributed database. Its main objective is to aid the collection, dissemination and harmonised exchange of maritime data. The network assists communication between authorities at local/regional level and central authorities thus contributing to prevent accidents at sea and, by extension, marine pollution, and that the implementation of EU maritime safety legislation will be made more efficient.
