The Municipality of Voria Kynouria was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 26 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of Astros and the former communities of: 1. Agios Andreas, 2. Agios Georgios, 3. Agios Petros, 4. Agia Sofia, 5. Vervena, 6. Doliana, 7. Elatos, 8. Karatoulas, 9. Kastanitsa, 10. Korakovounion, 11. Kastrion, 12. Koutroufa, 13. Meligou, 14. Messorachi, 15. Nea Chora, 16. Xiropigadon, 17. Paralion Astrous, 18. Perdikovryssi, 19. Platana, 20. Platanos, 21. Prastos, 22. Sitena, 23. Stolos, 24. Charadros, 25. Orgia. Municipality seat is Astros, small town of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 15178 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
