It lies between the beautiful beaches of the Pagasitikos Gulf and snow-capped peaks where exceptional ski runs have been created.   There are dozens of hotels and hostels. There is a good road link with Volos and on the way up there is a wonderful view of Volos nestling in the bay.   There is a police station, a post office, a bank, a medical centre and a pharmacy in Portaria.
