The Archaeological Museum of Thera
The new building (from 1960) replaced an older one that was devastated
by an earthquake in 1956. Currently, a new Museum is in progress on the isle of
Thera. The collections housed in the new building are inscriptions, sculpture,
earthenware and clay statuettes from the Geometric to the Hellenistic period.
Some of the most important finds exhibited are:
The upper torso of an archaic Kouros
Attic black-figure amphora
Attic black-figure kylix
Large volcano boulder
Clay Daedalic figurine (the lamenter)
